The American Motorcyclist Association and MotoAmerica have released the 2016 Sporting Regulations. Notable changes are summarized below. However, it is each entrant’s responsibility to read and comply with the entire regulation.

Section 1.14.1 A rider’s protective clothing and team radio, as well as motorcycle, will undergo technical inspection before each race meeting. The riders clothing must include their name, emergency contact and blood type adhered to the left-side lining adjacent to the main zipper.

Section 1.16.1 To increase communication methods with riders in regards to rain on the racing surface, the usage of the red/yellow striped flag, and the white flag with red cross has been modified.

“Yellow and Red Striped Flag: The adhesion on this section of the track could be affected by any reason other than rain. This flag must be shown and waved at the flag marshal post.

“White Flag with diagonal red cross: Drops of rain on this section of the track.  This flag must be waved at the flag marshal post.”

Section 1.16.2: To increase parity with the world-level regulations, the Black flag and Black flag with orange disk definitions have been modified.

“Black Flag: This flag is used to convey instructions to one rider only and is waved at selected flag marshals’ post together with the rider’s number. When this flag results from a penalty, the rider must stop at the pits at the end of the current lap and cannot restart.”

“Black Flag with orange disk: This flag is used to convey instructions to one rider only and is waved at selected flag marshal posts together with the rider’s number. This flag informs the rider that his motorcycle has mechanical problems likely to endanger himself or others, and that he must immediately leave the track.”

Section 1.18: Practice regulations updated with one event rider definition. “A rider that is not a MotoAmerica season entrant. In addition, the rider has not participated in more than one event (maximum of two races) prior to the event in question. Should a rider participate in more than two events (maximum of four races), after taking advantage of the one-event status as it pertains to Section 1.18.1, he shall be subject to penalties including starting from the back of the grid for up to two races at the discretion of Race Direction.”

Section 1.18.3: With the exception of Superbike and Superstock 1000, all classes will only be able to present one motorcycle to technical inspection. The Superbike class riders may use two motorcycles at any time. Superstock 1000 competitors will only be allowed to present one complete motorcycle for initial technical inspection. A complete spare machine is allowed, but will not be allowed in the pit box or on the track until the primary motorcycle is damaged in a crash or declared un-repairable by the technical director. All other classes may have a spare frame disassembled to the specifications described in 2.7.10 in the 2015 Technical Regulations.

Section 1.19.3: In 2015, Superpole 1 was open to the top 11-20 competitors. For 2016 it will be open to all competitors who meet the qualification requirement by achieving a lap time within 107% of the fastest rider in any session.

Section 1.21.1: All classes will follow the 15-minute start procedure.

Section 1.21.4: A quick restart will consist of the pit lane being opened for 30 seconds where the riders will make one lap to proceed to the starting grid. The riders will then receive one warm-up lap and resume the normal start procedure.

Section 1.28.4: “Any rider who has crashed in the first part of the race if there is suspicion that an injury has been sustained must be passed fit by a Medical Officer before he can restart.”

Section 1.30.4: To increase competition, make the race more accessible to fans, the Superbike and Superstock 1000 riders will be awarded points based solely on finishing order, irrespective of class. The Superstock 1000 class – will continue to have a separate podium and the championship will be determined by riders participating in Superstock 1000. The overall Superbike championship will include riders in both classes. Purses for both classes will remain separate and continue to be calculated on finishing order according to class.
